How does this course differ from other mediation training courses? |
![]() ![]() |
This is the course with depth, breadth, and substance. Course participants report that while some other courses have taught them "about" conflict resolution and mediation in general, this course really teaches them "how" to mediate and resolve disputes from the inside out. It is excellent in terms of in-depth substantive content, breadth of subject matter, quality course materials, active skill building based on real, fascinating cases, and fun. |

This course is comprehensive. We distill and present all the essentials, from the fundamentals of mediation theory and practice to sophisticated nuances of advanced mediation and the nuts and bolts of setting up, marketing, and managing a successful practice. We expose attendees to the full range of styles and approaches prevalent in the field today, and the pros and cons of each. One experienced mediator commented: "This is the course I wish I could have taken when I was starting out." |
|

We explore in depth the dynamics of human behavior and tools for dealing with strong emotions inherent in conflict. As a recent participant commented: "I ended up with much more than I expectedrather than just 'learning about mediation,' it was a good lesson on how people think and behave." |

What is the significance of a 40-hour Certificate of Completion? |
![]() ![]() |
Certification requirements vary from state to state. Currently, there are no formal state certification requirements for mediation in California. However, those wishing to qualify for mediation case referrals from courts, government agencies, and other provider programs must generally demonstrate that they have completed, at minimum, a comprehensive 40-hour training course. |
Do I have to be an attorney to take this course? |
![]() ![]() |
No. Both attorneys and nonattorneys have successfully completed our courses, and many nonattorneys have successful careers in conflict resolution. |
Do I need to take both the Level I (Fundamentals) and Level II (Completion) courses? |
![]() ![]() |
It is strongly recommended that attendees take both portions of the Comprehensive Mediation Training program in order to receive the full benefit of the information and experience offered, as well as to receive the 40-hour Certificate of Completion. We consistently receive feedback from participants, including experienced mediators, who tell us that they find the Fundamentals course to be invaluable. However, a participant has the option of taking either the Fundamentals or the Completion course alone, if that suits his or her particular needs and experience level. Please contact us to discuss your individual requirements. |
Are the trainers available to present the information in another format or location? |
